Magazine Update: Nikc Nack & Overbyte

5:23 PM Loaf

I'll start with Nikc Nack. The first issue available here is a gracious 1.1mb, but the magazine itself is average. The fair 9 pages of content include a bland and pixelated front page, an introduction to the team which clearly uses some default graphical text creator (my bet is Microsoft Word) and a few reviews and bits and bobs. The whole design of the magazine is unpleasant, and the layout is not great. I'd give this first issue a 5/10. I suppose a first issue, its not too shabby . I think that Nikc Nack magazine might actually evolve to a level of higher quality - lets wait for issue 2 before we make any conclusive decisions.

We also have issue 3 of Overbyte. Available here. Apparently, this issue is a bit more serious with content. Thank goodness for that. Overbyte was quickly becoming a joke.

Firefox 3.6 Instant Play Problems Cleared Up

8:36 PM Loaf

Sandy has announced on the glog that the instant play issues with Firefox 3.6 have now finally been fixed. He notes that users may have to uninstall the old addon first, due to the fact Firefox has changed their upgrade process. Additionally, Game Maker 8 games are now supposedly being processed properly. Sandy also mentioned YoyoGames are in the process of "signing the IE update to get Instant Play working with Game Maker 8 games properly" which I assume has now already happened.

GMIndie Returns - Issue 8 Released, Issue 9 Planned

8:05 PM Loaf

Issue 8 of GMIndie Magazine has been published, despite GMIndies stating that issue 7 of the publication would be the last, to be replaced by Developers Digest, which now appears to be a canceled project.

On the GMIndie website, the archives reveal Issue 9 is planned for release. On the forums, Brian Fetcher posts his reason quite simply:

"I actually like gmindie magazine and dont really want to start a different magazine =P"

You can get the lastest issue here. All other issues can now be downloaded from the archive, as old links are no apparently broken.

Issue 8 is 2.9mb and includes 18 pages of content.

Sorry for the delay, folks!

I was less impressed with this issue. The design is very nice, and there is plenty of content. But the novelty of the unprofessional and casual style of writing has completely warn off. Issue 1 made me laugh, but issue 2 was just... not funny.
